The annual Rutherford Technology High School P&C Golf Day took place at Maitland Golf Course on Friday 12 October 2007. 110 players turned up for a BBQ breakfast at 7.00 am prior to tee-ing off at 8.00 am.
The game was a 4 person Ambrose which provided plenty of fun for all players. Storm clouds gathered just as the final holes were played – seeing everyone make a run for the club house to enjoy lunch and the presentation of prizes.
1st prize was taken out by a team from Maitland Cricket Club led by Nick Bower, who is also a teacher at the school. They were delighted to receive jackets donated by Komatsu Australia together with wine and golf balls.
As part of the day’s entertainment, the Inter School Golf Challenge saw teams from as far away as Bourke and Taree competing against Rutherford Technology High School and other Hunter based teams to get their name on the trophy. However, it was the team from Toronto High School who were the highest scoring school team on the day.
Hole sponsors for the day include Komatsu Australia, Emeco International, Heritage Holden, IGA Telarah, J&S Engineering, Komatsu, Rutherford Hotel, Bennett Hotel, Treloar Group, Newcastle Permanent, Maitland Timber & Hardware, McDonalds at Rutherford, and Oporto at Rutherford.
Principal Paul Tracey says “The Rutherford Technology High School P&C Golf Day provides an opportunity for the community to support the school and join with us in a fun packed social event”. Playing on the day were teams drawn from local industry, parents, staff, and students, all taking the opportunity for a game of golf to benefit the young people of the area”.
