Rutherford Technology High School Year 12 Student Kendall Bannon has been nominated for a prestigious Pierre de Coubertin Award for all round sportsmanship – presented at the annual Awards Ceremony held at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre in Sydney on Friday 22 June 2007.
The awards, which are named after the founder of the modern Olympics Baron Pierre de Coubertin, recognise school students who have led by example, who display true sportsmanship and who help others. They were established by the Department of Education and Training in conjunction with the Australian Olympic Committee as part of the Sydney 2000 Olympic bid.
Rutherford High School teacher Bruce Read who nominated Kendall for the award said that “Kendall inspires other students by her dedication and willingness to give it her all”. “Kendall is an exemplary participant in swimming and athletics, competing in both disabled and mainstream athletics and swimming competitions”
Kendall has consistently represented the school at Zone level and this year participated at State level.
Mr Read says that “we believe this award would be a perfect acknowledgment of Kendall’s contribution over the last 6 years”.
